AGYTUR is the Tour-Operator for Ruta de los Volcanes (On the Volcano Trail)

AGYTUR is a tour-operator in ecotourism and is involved with the idea of organising travel to relatively undisturbed or protected natural areas in the ARAUCANIA region of Chile.

The AGYTUR partnership is integrated by six landowners from Melipeuco, Cunco, Freire and Curarrehue. Our activities as tour operators cover a vast area, reaching from the Andes in the Araucanía region, to its lowlands in the central valley, which is about 200 kms. wide.

Our activities as individual farmers are different and it is clearly reflected on our properties. Some of them are milking-farms, and the others are working with cattle ranches. In some cases the farms have preserved sections of ancient rainforest which have been protected from the cattle. One of the properties has a Protected Park inside it, which is covered with Araucarias and where there is a beautiful lake, and another of the properties is a Private Protected Area.

Cunco, Melipeuco, Freire, los Laureles, and Curarrehue are small towns varying in number of inhabitants from 2,000 to 12,000. These towns are in the central valley and in the foothills of the Andes. The whole region is a volcanic area. Some of the roads cut across the lunar landscape, covered with black ash. On the other side one can find large and beautiful green prairies. Throughout the region there are lakes and rivers everywhere, a result of the glacier period. As well as this, the famous monkey puzzle trees make the background for our landscape.

In order to promote local tourism and provide a more diverse area to visit in our region, we started this business by joining various tourist operators, thus providing more complete and interesting packages to our visitors.
